The Russian
Green Pages Project
ROLL
learned us how to work, we transfer this experience to others...
/V. Pankov, ICALL Council Chairman/
The Web-site traffic
(over 100,000 visitors) is not the
most significant success of the Russian Green Pages Project.
The major outreach of the project is creation of ICALL (nonprofit
organizations league), that now provides assistance for over 200
organizations and citizens in realization of their projects all over the
Russian Federation territory and abroad.
Russian Green Pages is the first in Russia environmental business directory
started in 1996 under assistance of the ISC
and USAID*. The directory was an excellent instrument
for search and dissemination of environmental/ecological information and
business contacts development. Since 1997 The Green Pages has no any
external assistance that confirms a high sustainability of the project.
Now the directory is a popular guide for Russian (89 regions) and
international (over 70 countries) environmental resources. Address catalog
of the directory includes information about 300 ecocompanies and
organizations, business proposals, announces and useful links. Number of
visitors now exceeds 108,000 and we have 3-5 informative requests weekly.
Over 10 publications are prepared on the project (including "Stroitelnaya
Gazeta", "Gazeta.ru",
Ecotechnologies Magazine, EnviroDialogue
(USAID project), and etc.). Citation index (by Yandex.ru) of the directory
is 73. The Green Pages experience is replicated by 3 other ROLL projects,
and is used by a number of ecological sites. Our visitors marked that there
are only a few such resources on the Web, that integrate geographical
approach, fast navigation, and informative content.
International recognition of the Green Pages is a prestigious Global
Bangemann Challenge Award (1999), handled in Stokholm, Sweden in
the presence of His Majesty King of Sweden. But the most significant
success of the project is creation of ICALL, where we accumulate all the
experience and results obtained. Today ICALL (nonprofit organizations
league) provides assistance for over 200 organizations and citizens in
realization of their projects all over the Russian Federation territory and
abroad.
In 2001 ICALL attracted over USD 60,000
for ecological problems solving by local NGOs in Russia. Trainings,
informational news lists, consultations ICALL provides to organizations and
citizens are based on the experience and results obtained during
implementation of the project under ROLL program and directly effect on
economic grow and public welfare (in particular, with ICALL participation
Ust-Ilimsk City Development Foundation won the Open Society Institute
tender on the Small Towns of Russia Program; Caucasus Mineral Waters Region
Development Foundation obtained state budgeting for realization of local
environmental projects; over 150 NGO representatives from 5 regions of
Russia passed ICALL fundraising trainings; over 200 NGOs from almost all
Russia and CIS receive ICALL monthly electronic newslist and consultations
on socially sound projects realization and so on). Our work on the Green
Pages give us new partnership with a number of governmental, business, and
nonprofit organizations, providing background for for future development of
ICALL and the Green Pages.
ROLL learned us how to work, we transfer this experience to others.
